Balance and wholeness are two concepts that go hand in hand, yet we often believe it’s impossible to achieve in our fast-paced and ever-changing world. As individuals seeking personal growth and transformation, it is crucial to understand the importance of both balance and wholeness in our daily lives and learn how to cultivate both in how we show up, interact with others, and make decisions.
Wholeness involves integrating all aspects of ourselves into a cohesive and unified whole. This means honoring all parts of us, including the physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual aspects. When we achieve a sense of wholeness, we can experience a greater sense of self-awareness, inner peace, and authenticity.
Balance is the state of being in equilibrium, where all things are in harmony. In our lives, this means finding the right combination of work, relationships, self-care, and other activities that give us a sense of fulfillment and purpose. When we achieve a sense of balance in our lives, we can experience a greater sense of happiness and well-being.
Sound too good to be true, or maybe just slightly impossible. Here is one very important question to be asking yourself: “what attention invites you to make decisions, show up and interact with a commitment that invites balance?” I want to share a quick and easy seven-step process with you. Give yourself just five minutes when you are feeling and sensing anything but balance and wholeness. Be somewhere that you can be uninterrupted, including by your electronics!
- Bring your attention to the memories of the day that you felt or sensed tension.
- Notice the moment when imbalance occurred – notice only, no judging or evaluating.
- Pull your perspective back, like sliding your chair a couple inches back from a desk.
- Remind yourself that you always have agency and choice for how you relate to the circumstance.
- Connect your attention with a quality in yourself (an essence trait of yours) that you embody as easily as breathing, something that generates happiness and joy as you give it your attention.
- Listen deeply, asking that quality what it has to say to you, or if you are a visual person, a metaphor or image that gives you a new and maybe a surprising view into the situation.
- Make a new choice for how you want to shift your relationship with the situation and the tension, that better aligns with your essence.
Truly, just five minutes. Trust your intuition and inner knowing and override the temptation to criticize your insight. Only then, will you recognize how you can be a translator for others to awaken in this way, so every person leads to move from tension to transformation.
So how can we cultivate balance and wholeness in our lives? Here are a few tips:
- Listen to your body: Pay attention to what your body is telling you and honor its needs. This means getting enough rest, eating nourishing foods, and engaging in physical activity that feels good.
- Prioritize self-care: Make time for activities that bring you joy and help you relax. This might include reading a book, taking a bubble bath, or going for a walk outside, and even better, in nature.
- Build healthy relationships: Surround yourself with people who support and uplift you. This means setting boundaries with toxic people and investing in relationships that bring you joy.
- Cultivate a spiritual practice: Whether it’s meditation, yoga, or prayer, find a spiritual practice that resonates with you and make time for it regularly.
- Practice mindfulness: Be present in the moment and cultivate a sense of awareness around your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. This can help you make intentional choices that align with your values and goals.
In conclusion, achieving balance and wholeness is an ongoing journey that requires intentional effort and self-reflection. By cultivating these qualities in our lives, we can experience a greater sense of happiness, fulfillment, and authenticity. So take a moment to reflect on your own life and consider how you can incorporate more balance and wholeness into your daily routine. Remember, the journey to personal growth and transformation begins with a single step.
